In April, the Residential Colleges were at 50 percent occupancy. OU offered special incentives, such as cheaper meal plans and other gifts, throughout the spring to attract more students. Now, the colleges are at 92 percent occupancy, with 571 of the 618 beds filled, Annis said. The earlier you start searching for houses and apartments near OU campus, the more options you’ll have to choose from. In Sulphur, authorities reported unspecified injuries along with significant destruction as the tornado began in a city park before tearing through Sulphur's downtown area. Search and rescue operations were underway, according to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol.

The tornado damage started Friday afternoon near Lincoln, Nebraska. An industrial building in Lancaster County was hit, causing it to collapse with 70 people inside. Several were trapped, but everyone was evacuated, and the three injuries were not life-threatening, authorities said. He issued an executive order Sunday declaring a state of emergency in 12 counties due to the fallout from the severe weather as crews worked to clear debris and assess damage from the severe storms that downed power lines.

Ultimately the twister slammed into the Elkhorn neighborhood in western Omaha, a city of 485,000 people with a metropolitan-area population of about 1 million. Fewer than two dozen people were treated at Omaha-area hospitals, said Dr. Lindsay Huse, health director of the city's Douglas County Health Department. A hospital was damaged in Marietta, according to the Oklahoma Office of Emergency Management, which also said that I-35 was closed at the border with Texas "due to overturned vehicles and powerlines across the highway."

“I’m thinking next year we’ll probably have enough — more than enough — upperclass students who want to live there that it would push the freshmen out,” Annis said. "It gives you a chance to really create a new community, and there’s no real pre-existing history, so that’s something you get to make up for yourself." Despite being the largest incoming freshman class in the history of the university, the class of 2021’s global community would have fit into the previous location in the freshman residence halls, Annis said. However, moving the community to the Residential Colleges would provide a better experience to those involved, he said.
Norman Apartments and Houses Near OU
“They’ve had a multi-year boarding school experience, often in a country other than their own. They also have an additional year, sort of a 13th year like you get in Canada, of preparatory education before they came here,” Gaddie said. Callaway House, a new option uncommonly close to campus for a luxury apartment complex, began aggressively advertising alongside the Residential Colleges during the last year. The perfect space to entertain and socialize when you want — and plenty of privacy when you don't.
In Dunham or Headington College, a one-bed, one-bath residence costs $1,373 per month, according to the site. Callaway House Apartments, one of the closest off-campus housing options OU’s grounds, offers a one-bed, one-bath option costing $1,054 per installment, as well as other housing options. Our roommate matching program is powered by RoomSync–a roommate matching app. Your student will have the opportunity to create a personal profile, search, filter, chat and match with other residents who will be living in the community.
LANDLORDS NEAR University of Oklahoma
The average rent for student apartments in Norman has risen over the past four years as more luxury apartment complexes have arrived. These complexes can be as much as $700 per occupant for four-bedroom units. For houses, you'll typically be able to find three or four bedroom places for under $400 per person. Eddins said he predicts more students will return to renting properties near campus as these new housing options wear down over the years. Photos from local news media showed several leveled buildings and roofs ripped off of homes. The Murray County Sheriff's Office urged people to stay away from the city to clear the way for first responders following extensive damage from tornadoes, according to a statement posted by the agency on Facebook.

According to the OU Housing and Food website, a one-bed, one-bath suite in Cross costs $1,444 per month; a two-bed, one-bath suite costs $1,333 per month; and a four-bed, two-bath suite costs $833 per month. All prices are per person, and all OU academic year housing contracts last only for the academic year. The $6.8 million amounts to more than double the market rate for commercial space, according to the notice, and almost 10 times the market rate for parking spaces. Former OU president James Gallogly said in September that the university was losing over $7.1 million per year on the Cross Village project. The document includes the university’s termination notice for the commercial and parking lease, which was sent to Provident on July 26.
HOLDENVILLE, Okla. (AP) - Tornadoes that tore across Oklahoma left a wide trail of destruction Sunday, leveling homes and buildings and knocking out power for tens of thousands of residents. Cross offers one-, two- and four-bedroom luxury suites, according to OU’s website, as well as amenities including a gym, rehearsal spaces, theater and performance venues, coffee shops, dining options and retail shops. Cross suites are among the highest-priced on-campus OU housing options.
When the tornado hit, they were at the airport picking up a friend who was supposed to spend the night. Residential units within Cross do not offer ovens or stoves, so residents must rely on communal kitchens if they wish to make their own food. The OU official wrote in the email that the university has no plans at this time to have freshmen live in Cross. Hicks said as it exists, Cross Village would primarily appeal to freshmen and sophomores, but the university will not allow freshmen to live there.
Provident Oklahoma, as an Oklahoma nonprofit, then applied for in excess of $200 million in government bonds to construct the Cross Village building and parking garage. Provident Resources Group, Inc. — a national nonprofit which works in development, ownership and operation of educational and housing facilities and services, according to its website — is the parent company of Provident Oklahoma. Keith Gaddie, senior fellow at Headington College, said most international students are older than the average OU freshman and therefore mature enough to ease into the upperclassman living arrangement. Older apartment complexes in Norman have also felt the strain of this housing surplus.
A tornado in suburban Omaha, Nebraska, demolished homes and businesses Saturday as it moved for miles through farmland and into subdivisions, then slammed an Iowa town. In Holdenville, houses were demolished and road signs were bent to the ground in the community roughly 80 miles (129 kilometers) from Oklahoma City. The sound of chainsaws could be heard in the distance as workers began tackling the damage. Dozens of reported tornadoes have wreaked havoc in the nation's midsection since Friday, with flood watches and warnings in effect Sunday for Oklahoma and other states - including Kansas, Missouri, Arkansas and Texas. Hicks said the reason the lease price was negotiated and agreed to was because OU received a $20 million upfront payment, and the lease amounts were necessary to secure adequate bond financing.
Later in the day, he planned to tour the southern Oklahoma city of Sulphur, where some buildings were reduced to piles of rubble. The university is working to get a lease transfer for the salon, an OU official wrote in the email Thursday. OU students pay about $14 in annual fees that help support the Daily. If you find value in our work and are not a student, please consider matching or exceeding that with a one-time or recurring donation. In an era when subscriptions to paywalled news organizations routinely exceed $100 annually, grassroots support from readers like you can collectively make a transformative difference in our organization.
Cross also had low occupancy upon opening — The Oklahoman reported in August 2018 that Cross was at 28 percent occupancy. The president of the nonprofit partner contracted by OU to help build Cross Village said the problems with the retail-residence complex can be linked to the university’s decision not to house freshmen there. Some upperclassmen living in the Residential Colleges were unaware freshmen lived in the housing development, while others knew of many first-year students in their midst. Norman-based realtor Brian Eddins said he believes this surplus stems from an overdevelopment of rental apartments in the area, which has decreased demand for traditional rental houses. "Miraculous" she said, stressing that none of the city's injuries were serious. Residents in other states were also digging out from storm damage.
You're only responsible for your student's rent — never someone else's! If a roommate transfers or graduates, you have no financial worries. Nebraska Gov. Jim Pillen and Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds spent Saturday touring the damage and arranging for assistance for the damaged communities. Formal damage assessments are still underway, but the states plan to seek federal help.
